Properly storing food, garbage, and other attractants is a good way to avoid a conflict with a bear. It might also be required if you live and recreate in bear country. Public land management agencies establish food storage regulations to help reduce conflicts with bears and protect public safety. Click on the map  below to find more information about the food regulations that exist for that location.

Using IGBC-Certified Products is one of the methods available to meet food storage regulations on some public lands in grizzly bear habitat. Other methods for compliance are also available in some areas; for instance, some areas allow for hanging your food or using electric fencing to store your food and garbage.  Other places (i.e. campgrounds) have food poles or food storage lockers for you to store your food while your camp is unattended.

If you do not see a regulation for the place you plan to visit, it is recommended that you contact the land management agency for that area prior to your visit to confirm that no regulation exists for that area.
